2014 winter indoor go-kart series

2014 Indoor Winter Go-Kart Championship Series

Being held at Grand Prix Kartways at Downsview Park. 75 Carl Hall Rd #9, Toronto, ON M3K 2B9 (416) 638-5278

The event starts at 6:30 pm so come early to allow time for registration and refreshments. (hint, bar is open) We do not condone drinking and driving however if you would like to come to the event as a social gathering to meet up with friends as well there is always a huge crowd. Plus what else are you going to do on a Sunday evening in the winter???

There are 5 dates set as listed below. You can come to any one, or participate for the trophies. To do so you need to attend at least 3 of the 5 events as we accumulate points for the best 3 of 5 events. Of course if you come to all 5 we take your best 3 out of the 5 so more chances to do better if you had an "off" night.

January 12, 26
February 9, 23
March 9

Points are awarded as such:

1st - 10 points
2nd - 8 points
3rd - 6 points
4th - 5 points
5th - 4 points
6th - 3 points
7th - 2 points
8th - 1 point

There are also bonus points awarded for running in the faster qualifying run groups. 10 bonus points awarded to anyone running in the fastest run group. 5 bonus points awarded to anyone running in the second fastest run group. No bonus points awarded to any subsequent run group. Everyone is going to receive 3 x 15 lap heats. The first heat is qualifying. Finishing position has no effect on this run group. The fastest time of all in qualifying starts 1st in the fastest run group, 2nd fastest starts second and so on. Groups range between 7 and 10 karts. If we have 24 people attend we would likely run 3 x 8 kart groups for example.

Heats two and three are full on 15 lap races. Standing starts a la formula one style. Only thing we do differently is the third heat we do a reverse grid start from the second heat or first race. So start the first race first, then you start the second race last and vice versa. This makes for more interesting racing, and helps balance out if you get stuck with a dud kart, or a super stellar kart.

As always, we run at run speed 1. Which is unrestricted. We are the only outside group allowed to run unrestricted, and we would like to keep that privelege. Although we understand there is some rubbing while go-karting, there will be marshalls out on track monitoring any intentional, or avoidable contact ie. being speared into the wall to get a pass. You will get penalized.

Cost is $50 taxes in payable to Grand Prix Kartways. This is a $28 discount from if you just showed up to race plus you would be on speed 2 for public karting, so the value is huge.
