e30 318is swap



whats the best bang for your buck swap for this car? and aproximate cost for everything.

It all depends on what your intentions are... The M42 is a very light motor and has DOHC with 4 valves per cylinder. Its a "light" version S14 used in the M3. The main benefit is that it makes the car very balanced and light weight. To keep that balance and add power ideally the best bet is a S14 swap.

Other alternatives are the M5x swaps but again it all depends on what you want to do with the car.

m20b25s are cheap and common. Easy to work on but it will add a bit of weight. More power, ya, but not as much as if you turboed the 318.
Pretty easy swap tho, I'd think.

keep the m42!!!! Get an aluminum fly wheel, the stock one wheighs 28lbs, also look into getting other accesorries off the motor, an electric fan, manual steering conversion, and no a/c free up alot of power on the M42. if you lighten the load, get a proper cold air set up, chip it and get the cams adjusted your laughing, and the car will handle better with the 4 cyl!!!!!!
