Easy engine swap for 1987 325e

I have just bought a manual 87 325e, the exterior and inside are in great shape but the engine has really high km and a bit of trouble running sometime. I want to swap in an engine thats relatively easy to find, easy to install, something with a little more performance, while keeping the price down. looking for around 150,000km on engine. Can anybody help me out with some recommendations and maybe even some links of where i can buy the suggested engines? I am in Alberta canada

Your best bet is going to be an M20 from a 325i. They're worth about as much as a good Swiss Chalet take-out order and it shouldn't be hard to find - lots of guys are doing M5x swaps into their cars and ditching the M20s (which is an option for you too but it requires more work while the 325i M20 will just be a direct swap).

For example:

He has the ECU for sale in a separate ad, you'll need that too (there might be some other stuff like that too, someone else can comment further, maybe check on r3vlimited or e30tech)

M50 is equally as easy. Smoother, more power, more reliable.
85 325 - Turbo M52B28.
