Chassis Stabilization and Steering Malfunction

I'm back!

Just picked up a MY12 328i F30 Sport and off the bat got two scary malfunction warnings.

The dealership I purchased the car from uses a regular shop and they said they had replaced the steering rack when they performed the safety and thought that would fix the problem.

I took it back to the shop 2 days after to get the tech to have a look at it (because they will fix it on the dealership dime) and he says now he has to change the Distribution box to fix the issue (electric steering is gone).

Does this sound right to anyone who has experienced this issue?

I work at BMW and have an appointment to have some warranty work done this week (same fault codes as per CBS) but in the meantime I don't want this other tech to **** up my car lol.

Any adviceses?

By dealership i assume you mean a Used car lot and by regular shop I assume you mean a non BMW specialty shop?

There are some known issues with the electric steering rack on the F30, however you did not post any codes.

If you work for BMW then why don't you just get them to check it or ask a technician?

Just get BMW to inspect and advise, then take it back to the repair shop and let them know and/or fix what BMW advises.

They need the correct equipment to diagnose the F30 (ISPI Next) and to code the new steering gear to the CDM.

Mark.

Yes to both assumptions. I have a service appointment to have BMW look at/fix it. I think I mentioned that.

CDM?

I didn't post codes because I didn't see any. Only the warnings.

Thanks for your help.
