Red face e46 M3 Navigation Software

Is it possible to upgrade the software/firmware on the e46 Navigation System? The one I currently have on the 02 M3 seems very old!

Also - does anyone have an updated map DVD? Or a copy of it?

Thanks

Interesting...

Has anyone done this by themselves?

Part of me wants to risk and part of me doesnt...

Dunno if its easy to revert back if I screw up?

Anyone?

I've done this myself. Works beautifully in less than 10 minutes. You'll now have the coveted "birdseye" view but be prepared as it eliminates any detailed information that you are used to getting now with your current setup. For example, with the factory loaded software you could easily spot side streets using either 200m or 500m distances, with the upgraded software you lose this abiltiy altogether. You will need to also buy the upgraded 2007/2008 road map either from Ebay or your local BMW dealer in order for you to have a complete upgrade, roughly $200 iirc.

Worth it?
That's a big flaw actually - the fact that you miss the side street view!!!?
Did you customize the splash screen?

I agree. I tend not to keep the bird eye's view because of this reason alone. It is a definite improvement from a visual stand point however, and that alone made it worthwhile for me. I would invest in the upgraded map to tie in the software upgrade. As for the splash screen, I wasn't inclined to customize it but I have seen some impressive examples on M3zine. Good luck!

Oh... did you mean that the side street was only invisible in bird's eye view?
Or in 2D mode as well??
