soft top motor

Hi all i am new to the bmw world and am very excited. It is nice to find a canadian site , may actually get to meet some people you speak with. But as i was going to ask does anyone know anything about the soft top motor? I can hear the motor run or at least think I can but the top does not move. Is there a way to check or replace the motor? Any advice is appreciated.

The roof uses a hydraulic pump, not a get at it you must remove the top, so not an easy fix/check. Are the locks opening properly?

Hi joeh
There are a few things that you can check; did the roof retract before, is the bypass valve in the correct position, to name two
There is lots of documentation on replacing the hydraulic motor, try google.
Most of the documentation is on other sites I'm afraid but there is detailed instructions on checking out what is the cause

Send a message via MSN to propr'one
in your trunk, on the left hand side, pull out the carpet. turn the knob thingy completely the other way. someone may have bypassed the pump for manual operation (although this likely means there's a problem with it)
