Engine rebuild cost. OUCH...

Well, I have a spare 2.8 engine block if anyone needs one.

The 2.8l M52 complete engine rebuild will run me around 2400 Cdn... OUCH
That is labour only.

On top of that I have to change all the chains, gaskets... ARP bolts...
The big price items are: M3 cams and titanium retainers + springs (900US).

At the end, my engine is going to cost me around 4500 Cdn...
This is the biggest upgrade I have made, but now I have a solid engine. I wish I had the cash to install forged pistons, oh well.

That is engine alone. Well, good thing I hate xmas, less gift to give.

4500 isnt that much when u put it in perspective, when i built my trans am engine it cost me close to 6000, and i built it myself!

its easy to drop 10,000+ for engine build

Point being?

You can't just randomly swap engines for most classes, plus, a questionable M3 engine versus a fresh and built 2.8 engine, i'd go for the 2.8L.

Exactly, an engine that is going to be raced has to be rebuilt, all the chains and everything has to be checked and changed if needed.
The most expensive parts are the valve springs and titanium retainers: 900US, M3 or 2.8l, you need these as a security if you want to race the engine.

Racing blows....

Well, if you know someone who is selling a completely rebuilt (top and bottom) M3 engine for 4500 Cdn I would take it...
It has to have the head ported and polished also... and heavy duty valve train.
