It would appear that you are experiencing some difficulties with the spacer.
I can guarantee you that you would never ever have to experience such difficulties if you just hand over the //M for my POS 328. :-D

I tried 10mm with rub (standard 540 fenders). That looks good. Perhaps I should get off my ass and roll the fenders...

10 on the front or rear? I think M5 front fenders are no different than 540. But it also depends on your wheel/tire setup.
