To the OP... Insurance was pretty much the same on a 330i and 330ci when I got quotes before I bought my 330ci

If you set your mind on an E46, I will be more then glad to help you.
Cheers for that, thanks a lot. I live in Ajax/Pickering, the pickins look pretty slim right now and I'm guessing it'll take a while to find a specific car but I'm willing to wait.

I may be being too picky, you tell me: wanted - sedan over coupe (depending on insurance), preferably 2003-2005 but could go older if quality is there and my budget is a constraint, manual transmission, not too picky on color though I prefer dark colors and probably wouldn't take a red bimmer (twist my arm i'd take a white one i guess).

Is VMRcanada.com a reasonable place to get a quick ballpark of the value of used cars or no?

Pickins look slim to me but maybe I'm not looking in the right places, here's some random links not saying these are all cars i'd consider but just a taste of what might be out there in/around my criteria:

http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/ctd/2366511435.html keele street dealer, bleh

http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/cto/2369528413.html is this guy asking way too much money or...?

http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/cto/2364934071.html coupe again, not sure of year or km's, i'm guessing one is gonna be low and the other high

http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/cto/2360247734.html another 325, its been tough locating a 330 and when you finally do, it's automatic

http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/mss/cto/2358635817.html a 320 with rims that look beaten to hell, not sure what value i should place on upgrades (if any), i think for me the more stock, the better.

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...dIdZ276224706# 2000 328i with 167k but somewhat of a desperate/sketchy ad

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ277059816 another 328 higher km's, seller claims to be an enthusiast and lists recent service completed

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...dIdZ280986168# over 200km's and maybe priced a little high for a 325?

ok there's a meager start, i'll do a more thorough search when i get a sec, thx again. let me know if there are more BMW enthusiast sites that maybe i should be browsing the classifieds sections of.

interesting, good to know. my record is indeed less than perfect, in a year's time i'll have some tickets coming off so fingers crossed there. for the record i have nothing serious it's just an accumulation of 10km/hr over the limit due to a ton of business mileage, shit's weak, shouldn't speed.

I didnt like any of the links you posted.

Here are a few that I found in the 10-15k range

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ257365720
This car was for sale last year as well, but didnt sell, maybe priced too high, might check it out.

http://www.autotrader.ca/a/BMW/3%20S...0831073340094/

You have to know what you want, either you want a low mileage 04-05 or you want a high mileage 00-02, because I cant really get it by your links.

Did you search the classifieds ion this forum?

Those two are nice, you're right there are basically two different groupings as I see it - the high mileague 00-02 in the $7-8k range then lower mileage 03-05 for $10-13k. Where does the 'smart money' go? That's why I joined the forum.

Hey what's with the seats in that silver low mileage '03 330i? They look almost like cloth or suede in those pics...and is it just me or does the console, hand brake, steering wheel area look really dirty?

These any good...?

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ278534932 clean looking car but it's really bare bones and its a shady Finch/Keele st. dealer :S

Silver 330i does have suede interior. Its a standard feature on M-Packaged cars after 2003 Its called Alcantara , leather was an option.

I like the first link you posted. Nothing rare about the car like the owner states, 6 speed because a standard feature on ALL 330s after MAY 2003 (5 speed was discontinued for 330s). Car looks ok, not my cup of tea but we may have different tastes.

http://www.autotrader.ca/a/BMW/3%20S...0713095531208/ this seems to be a clean sport packaged 5 speed, yes its a dealer but you never know. He asks for 10.5, he most likely got it for 7.5 just a thought.

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...dIdZ281749948# another clean Sport pack 330i

When you do buy an E46 you want AT LEAST a sport pack(which will come with sport seats, round sport steering wheel, sport suspension and 17" rims, which will depend on style by model and further options) you do not want to be driving on Non-sport seats BELIEVE me, they suck real bad.

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...dIdZ281506239# here is a Stunning Black on black M-Sport coupe, absolutely beautiful car with low mileage.

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...dIdZ281506239# this car looks good, M-Sport, black , all the goodies and a Supercharger. It also had a pretty interesting history behind it , talk to the owner to find out as I dont want to say anything I'm not supposed.

http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...dIdZ281143680# this car seems nice, but more importantly the seller seems to be honest. Thats what counts

All these ads make me wanna go out and buy another BMW , again.

To OP, I just picked myself up an 04 330i m-performace for smack dab in the middle of your budget, after tax. Has 125km on it and couldnt be in any better condition. It is a used car so it does have a few small scratches but it is a used car. Rides smooth, and damn it halls ass when you want it to, plus it just looks beautiful. What I did before I bought a car was figure out what you really want the car to have, for me I needed a 6 speed, m pack 330, not in silver or black. I looked for months until I found one that fit the criteria, and there you have it. If you arent interested in an M-pack then you can save a bunch of money there and get one with a lot less km than something like mine, though i would strongly recommend it! Best of luck, hope your as happy as I am. Just tinted her today baby

Please do share the price (if you can) and the details - kms, service history, did you get a mechanic to do a pre-purchase inspection? Private sale or dealer? I'd love to see some pics, congrats on the purchase.

new_member thanks again for all your help bud, I'll be looking through your links when I get a chance.

I am at work so I’ll get some good pictures up later. I bought it for 14.5K + tax from a dealer in Toronto. Like I said, it had 125,000km on it when I bought it. Had my mechanic check it out before I bought it and he said it looked good. Came safety and e-tested, plus awesome brand new rubber on the rear which was nice to see a dealer do.

Damn that topaz blue 2001 looks sweet. Crazy low km's, priced fairly well considering the work he claims to have put into it. It's not exactly my taste with the color and the rims but at least it's not totally molested. I sent an email out and hopefully I can go see it this weekend, if that car can be had for under 10k then maybe that's a good find, thoughts?

The link you posted with the supercharger was a duplicate of the link above, maybe you can find it again?

Thanks for that info on the sport seats, i'll definitely keep an eye out for that. So 'Premium Package' don't have sport seats? Or is that a specific option?

Lastly, just as a rule of thumb - when I'm looking at cars approaching/surpassing the 150,000km mark what should I be asking about:

-belts
-water/fuel pump?
-ball joints?
-control arms/bushings
-struts/springs?
-bearings?
-should i be worried about worn-out looking seats or is that par for the course? TIA

Buy an E36. They're awesome! Best body style of any BMW imo, but that's a highly opinionated topic, lol.
