Help with insurance for new immigrant

Family member immigrated to Canada and bought a car. Insurance quotes so far are outrageous.

Quick details, 35 male, married, has full G Ontario licence. Bought a 2000 Taurus SEL.

Any brokers on here or know of someone that is that can offer reasonable rates for liability only?

After about 40 phone calls we finally got insurance for him.

Quotes ranged from: "We don't insure people like you" to btw $279 - $500/month.
Today he finally found a company that will charge $189/month, and he went for it.

Still way too much for liability only on a $2k car in my opinion. The nice letter from his insurance company in Europe wasn't even considered by any of the companies.

Way to gouge new immigrants to Ontario.....

The letter from his insurance in Europe is just like an external medical degree, not recognised...

Even with reduced medical coverage, yet the premium is still going up...
yup we are gouged.......and no Ontario goverment has any resolution to this.....

He's now aware that he will get shafted for 3-5 years. On a related note, a buddy moved to Germany to Canada. The insurance companies asked for a letter from his insurance company in Canada and then gave him a rate that corresponds to his experience.

What insurance company did u end up going with.. and yes canada loves squeezing every last penny out of people... i think i read on forbes that in canada for every dollar a person makes 62 cents goes back to the government in some form of tax.... thats the average amount some save more, but most gets taxed more!
