So i figured its about time i post an update on this thread.....

These events have taken place since last october until now...

Bought an E36 coupe 323is that will become my track car this year or the next provided my E38 project goes well.
Parked the 7 in October. Battery died, sunroof leaked and i have had nothing by electrical nightmares.
The body wasn't in the best shape and i had to replace the gas tank as well because it leaked, so heres my fix to all those problems.

98 740i. Unfortunately it not the 'L' but it is MINT. 170,000km, not a spec of rust on the body, and everything works minus the transmission lol. an internal sensor went and as a result it runs like crap. But the car was cheap.

Also got this...

540i 6 Speed swap kit. Transmission, custom driveshaft, mounts, pedals, clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, etc etc. $1000!!!
I've wanted a 6 speed 7 since i bought my first one and when i saw this deal i couldn't pass it up.

And this is where I'm at right now.

Exhaust, driveshaft, and shifter linkage are all out.
Next i need to figure out how I'm going to delete the auto tranny oil and cooler lines.
If anyone has some info on that i'd appreciate it!

Better that you got the shorty. iL swaps are very hard from what I hear. PM me your email if you like, I'll give you all my stuff from when I did the 540i swap last year. It's a piece of cake if you know basic coding.

All you need to do it take them out! They are not related to anything else, so its a simple delete.

The only mechanical difference from I to iL is the rear section of the driveshaft, that is not even modified in the swap...So those are nothing but rumors.

I've never done any coding. i got the software befor but couldn't get it to work with my old 7. maybe it was the car, maybe it was the cheap software.

It does not have any connection to the rad...So nothing. Just remove the lines/cooler.

VICTORY!!!
well, at least for this portion of the swap.

what i had to use to get the top bolts lol

now just have to wait for the new seals for the 6 speed transmission to come in and change those. clean it all up, resurface the flywheel and it can go in.
HOWEVER, while i have access to the back of the engine, is there anything i can check for? Leaky seals, and any common problem item?

The wizards at Bimmerheaven if you could shine some light here id appreciate it!

---update---
was suggested to change the crankshaft seal as well as the water jacket right above it.
i looks like the coolant collector is leaking as well....wondering if i should mess with that

Best to do the pipes/hoses now since you have easy access. I personally would also do the RMS and cover, for the same reason.

How did you find the tranny removal? It's all downhill from here...

You mean replace the rubber hoses? And what's the rms cover?

The removal honestly wasn't bad. Very straight forward hardest part was cracking the driveshaft and guibo bolts loose. Mind you I'm doing all of this on my back with the car on jack stands so I don't have alot of room for leverage. But all in all its not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Well see about putting the new one in and making the car work lol

Sorry, didn't check my email. Yes, the hoses along with the gaskets on the under-manifold pipes. RMS is rear main seal, it's the cover around the seal. Also has its own gasket.
