car studders



hey guys i have a 91 318i and it seems to studder at times, but it only studders from 1000 to 2000 rpm and then its fine. just wondering if anyone might know what it could be. people have told me it could be the distributor. thats all i know. your help is greatly appreciated thanks.

I had a similar problem last summer and it was the oxygen sensor.

hmm i dont know if that could be the problem, because my check engine light is not on. oh i also forgot to mention in 3,4,5 gear the car hits like 4 1/2 to 5 thousand rpm and stays at that rpm, sometimes it will exceed that rpm but its rare.

Ignition, I'll look for those coils and wires next time I'm home. Thats my guess.

don't let the people who told you distributor near your car, or let them and ask them to find it, cause your car does not have one.

could be coils or wires, but also sound like it could be throttle position sensor, and dirty throuttle body, try cleaning it out and see how it is. Another common thing is the idle controle valve, or a vacum leak around the idle control valve, which is at the back of the motor by the fire wall, check the hoses connecting it and clean it too.

same problem here too lol everything richie_s999 said above could be the problem.
So far ive changed or cleaned about half of the list and its gotten better but still not great.

also check the fuel filter, might not be flowing enough petro!!!!

ya the diff was low on oil so when the power cut out on the highway it would churk as the power would come back, as i were jump starting the. but now it runs fairly well so cant complain
