kidney grills

i have a 96 e36 2dr coupe, lost one of my grills on the highway because it was loose so i need to buy a pair, but i know they were changed on the e36's i think either in 97 or 96, does anyone know what year and what exactly was changed on the kindey grills? appricate the help guys

In 96 they changed, they stick out more then the 94's etc..

they stick out more (wider plastic outside) but are also more narrow at the bottom (97+ have a nicer shape imo). Also u cannot swap the 97+ style into a car with the earlier style grilles without changing the entire nose panel, since the shape is different. However if you just want the wide plastic look you can order something like that on ebay to fit the 1992-1996, they just won't have the nice narrower look at the bottom. Basically the older grilles are more square shaped and have a much thinner chrome around than the newer ones. I'll find pics.

Heres a pic of the 97+ style (sorry for using this pic I don't know who this car belongs to, I think I saved this one from bf.c but I guess the car could belong to a max member)

I know I know, I've been thinking about it. Since I'm getting my front end repainted, I think I'm gonna pick up a set of ebay wide grilles and then have the surround painted to match the car , if it looks shitty though I'll just repaint them all black .

i say leave them all flat black.....then if you dont like em like that try the edge's painted........

i think it would set your front end off nicely

ok so my car is a 96 so i could fit the 92-95 on there, it rim is just not as wide on the older models right? but 97 and up its a different shape so it wouldnt fit on my nose panel k i think i got it thanks for the help
