Help me design my system

I just got an e36 and it came with stock radio/tape, no CD changer. Turn it up and you get brutal distortion (not HK system).

I'd like to put in a new head unit. Clean looking and simple with an Aux in for my Sirius receiver. I don't want flashing colours or flip out screens.

At the same time I'd like to upgrade the speakers. Clean sounding but not high end MB's or anything like that. And maybe an amp to run it all.

I don't know speaker sizes and I've been out of the audio scene for years and I'm not up to date with products.

Thanks a lot for your input and any other suggestions/avenues are appreciated.

Us a good 5 channel amp to run the whole system,3 way up front,2 way kit or a coex in the rear...what is your buget frist off???

I had about a grand in mind. $300 for deck, $300 for speakers 2 or 3 for an amp and then there's wiring and misc stuff.

I noticed in the door there are two small grilles high in the door for maybe a 1" and 4" speaker. Is that it for up front? What size are the speakers in the rear deck?

And add some tweets up front too. What kind of amp and how many channels would I need for this setup? I'd maybe add a nice 10" and second amp down the road.
