fuel tanks

Are the two sizes of fuel tank interchangable? I own a 86 eta and I want to swap in a tank from a 87 "is" because my current tank is leaking. Wondering if i will have any issues or if they are the same size tanks.

^^ Should be the exact same tanks.. I believe the bigger tanks came in newer 88+ 325i's
