Does the tranny from a 318 fit a 325?

I just picked up a 318is for parts and have a 320iA (essentially a 325 as it has the same block). I would like to do a 5spd swap on the Touring and was wondering if all that stuff would bolt up ....

Please help me as I am beginning to pull parts tomorrow.

nope, it wouldnt work.....if the 320 shares the same block as the 325 then the motor/tranny sit on a 20 degree angle to the right. the problem is the getrag 240 is made for the m42 engine that sits 30 degrees to the right so the tranny wouldnt be seated properly and the linkage wouldnt be straight.

so if you would like to sell that tranny to me gimme a shout.

Well, let me see that everything actually works fine before I part the car out.

If you are looking for a tranny, i'm pretty sure a buddy of mine has the E30 6cyl. tranny.... lemme know if you need it

That's the issue ... i need more than just a tranny to convert my Touring to 5-spd. It's the reason why I bought this 318 ... and for the seats but that's a different story.

Ya, everything from the 318 should be able to be switched over, with the exception of the tranny, so if you need just the 6cyl tranny, lemme know

You can reuse everything from the M42, except for the driveshaft, trans and flywheel/clutch. You also need a shorter shifter carrier, as the M42 unit is about 3" too long (getrag 240 is really really short)
