AC/Heating Messing up

Right at the end of the summer my AC system stopped working for no reason, it would only blow outside air, now the problem is getting even wierder. If the airflow is positioned towards the seats it only blows outside air, so theres no heating, but if I aim it towards the windshield it starts blowing hot air.
Does anyone have ideas on how to start troubleshooting this? Is there any sensors that monitor the temp going in? Or is it possible that the actual vents are being blocked or are damaged.
Thanks guy, this needs to get fixed up before the winter starts!

what is the year and model of the car?

the soldered connections usually come loose in the e36s' u woul have to resolder them or just get a new hvac control i mean a good used one

the HVAC control unit is a problem on e36s. It could be two things. Either teh HVAC control unit is malfunctioning as posted above or one of the heater flaps is not opening to allow the hot air to come into that section.

its an e36, where is the HVAC unit? Does the dash have to be removed to check the flaps?

Most likely all your freon leaked out causing the AC to stop working, (I have to top mine up twice a summer),

And I have the same problem with the heater

bro the HVAC is simply the name of the control which is the sameas ur AC/heater control buttons. it just comes out like a stereo being pulled out from the center console.

yes the dash has to be removed or u could just listen to the sounds of the flaps changing directions or not. but i think ur problem is the HVAC since the heat turns on when u have the a/c on by pressing the front windsheild defogger.

I've got the manual Controls myself too (obd1), early e36's

center Vents above the radio theres a "vent control"

either lets in Cold air (blue) or your heater cores heated air (brown)

is yours in the middle? Or on cold or hot?

my heat fans have Crapped out on me 2x's now, but come back

Yea when its on full heat it would blow out cold air towards the seat, but hot air if its aimed towards the windshield..
