quick!: Exterior door trim tricks and tips

My damn door trim is pissing me off! At first it was kind of falling off when you closed the door. So I got 2 new clips but I broke another 2 in the process of putting them in lol.

Right now I'm replacing all the clips and have some questions:

1) How are you supposed to pull off the trim w/o breaking the clips?
2) Regarding to how you put it back on: do you put the clips on the trim first, and then push into the car holes, or put the clips on the car first and then push the trim on?

I'm afraid I'm gonna keep breaking my clips (and they're $2 each!). Part of the reason has to be my deformed old-ass trim that doesn't fit the clips perfectly and snaps them.

if they're brittle and old they will break no matter how careful you are. This is why you should replace all of them. Then they will be softer plastic and will come in and out without breaking.

You're referring to the clips right? Yea my dad's getting new ones as we speak. What about number 2?

sorry, didnt' see #2, you slide the clips onto the door panel, they have holes and then a small piece where you can slide it into the hole so it olds it, you'll see what i mean when you look at it.

Then you just snap it back onto the door.

Hmm alright. One more thing. The frontmost clip on the trim, that's the "plug" on realoem right? (The others are called clamps)

to pull it off without breaking the clips, the best way is to get a clip remover tool(kind like a bent screwdriver with a "U" shape at the tip), but if you don't have that, just use two screwdrivers, one on either side of each clip. Once you have a couple out, you can do it by hand. Just make sure not to yank in bad places. The key is to pull as close to the clips as possible.

I see. So any word on the "plug" piece? My dad just brought them home and this plug piece is tiny. I'm talking about what needs to go in the last hole (towards the front of the car) on the trim pieces. The hole is too close to the end of the fender to be for another big clamp.

Do you guys REALLY want pics? I'll go run to the garage if you really want. I just wanna put the damn trim on as soon as possible, it's really EEKIng me out.

Ok I'm really starting to think I'm the only one with these holes in the door. Pics will be up in a sec. They don't even go all the way in, theres metal maybe half a cm behind the opening.

EDIT: I jsut went ahead and put the door trim on. YEEHA, nice and tight now

Time to do the rest of the car...
