A/C Compressor always on?

1992 325is M50 motor,

My air conditioning compressor is always on, last week I noticed the drop in engine power, and then I noticed that the car always blows cold air even when just on vents... I checked under the hood today and noticed that my A/C compressor is engadged even when the A/C switch light is off...

Any ideas?

Adam

well, i figured it out, bizzare thing...

Even with the ac button OFF, if i turn on the "cabin air recycle" the ac compressor will kick in, anyone have any comments on how to fix that,

So if i click the recycle air button, my ac will turn on even if the ac button is off

you have a digital heater control yes...the problem is in there,
i had a similar thing with it turning itself on and off randomly and the AC going even when switched off . dont replace the unit it'll cost you plenty
its a capacitor fault (like a 3c fix)

i got a mate to solder in a new cap and all problems fixed - guess thats why the wrecker wanted like $200 with exchange of broken unit - the bastards!!

The airconditioner is automatically switched on when the pushbutton for recirculated air is activated. It's not a defect. The whole idea behind recirculated air in your cabin is to block out external pollution. Without your AC on, you create pollution inside the cabin. .......
