Slight ticking when engine cold

Hey,

I've noticed for a bit now that when the engine is cold and I start, it ticks until it warms up, but if I rev it a bit it might stop or it might not, so it's off an on.

Is this normal, and if not what could it be? It's not loud but can hear it if you listen for it or if a window is open or something.

Thanks,

Flaviu

Noisy lifters appear to be a trait of the M50 6 cylinder engines. Nothing to worry about. Like you said... It goes away when your engine gets warm. The lifters just have to get lubricated, and once they do the noise dissapears. When you turn your engine off the oil drains and sits back at the bottom of the engine so it needs time to get to the top to lubricate your lifters when you restart your engine when it is cold.

nope, at least no e36's that I know of have a synthetic requirement, its just a choice by us to spend the extra mula considering what most of us put our cars threw.

Its your lifters... Normal for all e36... It will help if you add 1/2 quart oil to it. USE MOBIL 1 only!!! It helps man. Another thing could be crappy gas... If at all possible... Use SHELL gas!!!!! Shell is cleaner... and better over all.
