Help! Would a crack in the rim blow my tire out?

I had a tire which was bald, I had to top it out with air every week. I thought the tire was just old and was leaking air. Well today I guess the "inevitable" happened.

I want to know what I can do about this before getting new tires.

have you driven on that tire with very low air pressure before? if you did you might have damage the interior sidewall of the tire, I see it happen all the time, from the outside the tire looks ok, but if you take the tire off the rim the inside of the tire is destroyed from under inflatetion

That is true, it was under inflated most of the time. The outside of the tire had little slices in it though...

My friend told me that wheel cracks cannot be repaired. Does that mean I have to reweld the crack? I just think it's a matter of time before this happens again though.

well whoever did it the first time might have done a shitty job, not enough heat penetration, or wasn't cleaned properly, that might be the reason why it cracked again, the balance must be way off with some much extra weight

I have a cracked rim aswell to be fixed I got a few estimates from a few shops..

Carcone's - Aurora - $50-$75 for rim weld on inside lip.

Collision Network - HWY 7 & Jane - $150-$165 for rim weld on inside lip and clean up

and another one near weston & finch i forget the name of wants $100-$110 for weld on inside lip and clean up

All 3 said the rim would be pretty much just as strong as when it was new,

Thanks Pro. Do you have first hand experience with all of them? Or a particular one? I'd rather pay more and know that this won't happen down the road again.

Obviously this was a shitty weld job

No I have not used any of these shops before, I checked with those 3 places because i have heard good reviews from all of them from people on max, I carcone's is good, mostly high tech shop, machines do all the work, the other 2 i belive are done manually not too sure why the prices jump so much from shop to shop but im thinking of taking mine to Collision network or the one at weston & finch just cuz i dont feel like driving out to aurora,

ALSO all 3 said they would need the rim for 1-2 days to fix it properly
