Careful then, since Seagate and Maxtor are now the same company. Seagate acquired Maxtor, and Maxtor acquired Quantum some time back. IBM bought Hitachi's HD division back in '02, so it looks like there's only Western Digital and Samsung left. (and Toshiba for laptop HD's)

I've done lots of research on this!

While seagate has aquired Maxtor they havent changed a single thing about the company. The seagate drives still have the seagate technology and they havent taken anything from maxtor to use in their line of drives.

If anything it would be seagate giving its technology to maxtor to help improve their failure rate which hasnt happened either.

They still both their own company running their own technologies and havent exchanged anything as of yet.

thank god Seagate isn't using Maxtor technology, I use nothing but Seagate HD's as well, but the only problem I have with Seagate is their HD seems to run louder than any other HD I've own

I agree. The room i got my computer stuff in sounds like a data cage at some NOC, but i'll take the noise over failures any day of the week

I only complain because my comp runs 24/7 & it's in my bedroom at the moment, but I deal with it by playing music when I sleep

Almost the same situtation here...I found the whurl of the drives and fan to be a good way to drown out any other noise which might wake you up since it is a constant steady noise which doesnt really change.

The only thing which sucks is the heat generated from a bunc of p4s, amd x2, and opterons which is why i moved them all to my "office" room

Justin i didn't mean to insult you, I sometimes have a sharp tongue that gets away from me......I prefer a WD Drive. I bought a maxtor 250 6 months ago, has bad sectors already. Don't mean to spoil your sale or anything, Who knows maybe i just got a bad one, but the seem to be going down.

Anyhow....BIG BUMP FOR A SUPERB SELLER.

I bought 16 of those drives, i'm keeping 8 of em here to store my movies/music/work shit (porn videos) as well as using it as storage when i convert VOB to mpeg videos. The other 8 are getting throw in another server and shipped to an ISP for a new porn project i've been working on!
