weekend project... where to buy and what to buy

need to change driver side tire rod and going to do a full job on the brakes. I am sure the tire rod I will have to get from the dealer but when it comes to brakes.. what do you recomend and from where? should I just get it all from the dealer?

I still have not figured out that stupid problem with the trunk... but I will this weekend! (trunk release keeps on dying, not the fuse)

it would help... if I mention my car... 1997 528i

trunk actuator - common problem
tie rod - any indi shop will sell you for a good price ... they are cheep no more then $60 I think.
do not buy drilled brembo rotors on ebay ... they are post-drilled.
I run AXXIS/PBR DELUX pads they are alright, almost no dust ... but I heard 528 owners had plenty of issues with them. If dust not an issue - stick with OEM pads.

You can try getting everything online from the US, I found that in many cases
it is cheaper to pay shipping + duties then buy here.

Thanks!

The actuator eh? that has been driving me nuts for a long time... the dealer fix it and charged me 20 bucks for the fix so I was pissed... but then spent 30 mins trying to figure it out.
I do get lots of dust right now. where did you get yours and how much?

i bought mine online from some US site. they listed them as PBR.
if I were you - I'd do a search for brake pads on http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums/e39/ or some other e39 forum. there is a wealth of info and you can see who had what kind of issues. 540 and 528 brakes are different as far as I know and it looks like 540 likes PBR pads better.

Send a message via MSN to Quack
I picked up a set of KVR slotted rotors & Hawk HPS pads from our sponsor QMR, talk to Carmen he was very helpful, the rotors were $150+tx each & the pads were $140+tx, if you can wait I would recommand Powerslot rotors.

wiper inserts I buy from ebay seller 98tavipereater for 12-13 bucks a pair.
here: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?..._BIN_Stores_IT

PBR Metal Master or PBR Ultimate are not dust free pads, PBR ULTRA DELUX are.
If I were you, I'd do some research on the e39 message boards to see what others say about those metal master pads. I know that PBR Ultimates are liked by many. they have somewhat less dust then OEM but the dust is not black but grey.
