e36 M3 bumper vs. stock 3 series...

Is the black area of the rear bumper on an M3 (that wraps around the exhaust at the bottom, sometimes called a diffuser), interchangeable with that of a 328is or are the bumpers totally different??

It's different. There is a part on the net that looks like the M3 version but fits the 32x series bumper.

The rear diffuser from an M3 bumper can be retrofitted with some trimming to fit the 328 rear bumper quite nicely. A few members on here have done it, here's an example on propr'one's 328i...
