Yeah, it's probably the throw out bearing.

The reason I mentioned differential is because I was working on a friend's e34 535i with LSD and it had similar symptoms... high pitched whine, with the clutch released it would stop whining. Sounded like a loud supercharger, a little deeper. Only when accelerating it would whine. But it also clunked when hard-shifting... until the wheels locked up when shifting to 3rd.

... a sea of bearings fell out when I opened up the diff.

Slovenia... curious, did this problem only start after the SC install?

My money is on the release bearing, I would get it replaced immedietly before it causes more damage.

I would say its the release bearing too. However, if you added a charger, you can expect your tranny bearing to go quickly if your constantly beating the car. If your worried about the tranny itself, there isn't much to do except maybe an oil treatment and some thick oil.
Lastly, in order to preserve the tranny, try to avoid hard downshift. Hard downshifting is a major cause of bearing failure on BMW trannies.

yup...the noise just got increasingly louder, but not right after the install, I would say like 2 days after, but the car was driven a bit and run hard to make sure we were hitting 8psi at high rpm....

I don't see how it could be the release bearing at all, unless you're clutch slave cylinder isn't fully retracting, your the release fork has shifted somehow.

Try the cheapest option, the center driveshaft bearing, then make sure it's not coming from the diff, check the rear wheel bearings (I know its far, but vibrations can travel up the drivetrain), and as much as you'll hate to hear it, it could be something internally in the gearbox that is damaged.

I have the exact same problem, this sucks...sometimes ONLY when its cold i accelerate slowly and from 1000-2000rpm it is normal and then at 2000rpm theres no power increase but my throttle position is the same?

i had the EXACT problem...when you press the clutch it goes away, when driving or in neutral with your foot off the clutch, it whines. throw out bearing needed replacing.

Funny, my car is in at Bimmersport for the same reason, and he mentioned the bearings as well. I have to pick up the car tomorrow, so i will let you know.

The shaft is always spinning thru the release bearing, and if the bearing is shot it is going to squeel.
