Looking at possibly buying 328is.. what to look for

What problems should I look for when looking at these cars? Any recalls? Any specific weaknesses or problems that I should check have been fixed? Mileage will probably be between 80-120k.

Thanks

(Right now considering three possibilities... e46 323ci, e36 328is, mk4 gti vr6/1.8t. Budget probably will be between $14-20k)

By the time the 328is's came out, BMW has ironed out pretty much all the main problems with these cars. With so few km you should be okay. Besides the wear and tear items like ball joints, rear shock mounts, etc. There is just a few worries you should have. Radiator blowing up, or fan blades exploding.

However, with an e36 and e46 in the stable... I really would recommend you highly consider the 323ci. Can't comment on the Vdub.
