Gauge Cluster Question

Hey Guys..........Has any body been able to get the plastic cover off of the gauge cluster of an E36? I'm having a heck of a time trying to do it without breaking it. I'm trying to get an aluminum bezel in there along with some rings. The rings are easy. Any help would be great.

Thanks Benny, I checked that out, but that can be done by removing the back of the gauge cluster. I'm trying to get the front off.........the clear plastic thats on the front. Has anybody been able to do that without breaking it?

Seans.. I think this will answer your question. I'm sure it's not the answer you were hoping to hear though...

trust me you cant, nor to you want to, you can ask paul, he hacked a cluster up before finding out there is no way to get the front off. im sure you can if you use enough heat to melt the epoxy that welds the front glass to the housing, but again its like a huge hack job and of course like paul i had teh luxury of a second cluster to attempt it, and i hacked it pretty good... justin's link has the DIY on how to install a gauge bezel, or rings.

can i ask why you want the glass off anyways?

I have an aluminum bezel that I want to put in there along with some rings. The rings are easy, but its the bezel that is hard. I bought another cluster because the one in my car has some pretty nice marks on it, so I was just going to replace the plastic, which isnt hard being that its the front of the cluster. I can keep all my org gauges. I just cant figure it out. I was thinking of getting a dremel & cutting the plastic all the way around & just glue it back, but I'm not sure if that will work.
