and Justin, thats pretty shitty for me. cuz i really like that 18-button OBC. seems damn cool. so which cars came with it stock? if i end up selling mine to pick up another 318 or a 328 (5-spd), i will want one with an 18, or at least 11-button OBC. so, what do i need to know?

Mine is a 94 and it has the 11 Button as stock.

I think i should be good to go with the 18 button swap, especially with the link you used. much clearer as to what needs to be done.

thank you

yea, that was a good link fukes, only thing im unsure of, is where it mentions wiring it to the gas gauge...i hope that means the gas gauge that shows how much gas is in the tank, not the fuel consumption gauge because my car is a euro m3 and has an oil temp gauge or somthing in place of the fuel consumption gauge.i hope this doesnt mean my wiring is going 2 have 2 be different..i have the 11 button currently, and bmw regestry says the euro cars can accomidate any of the factory options so the 18 button shuld be no problem...just not sure if the consumption gauge is used during the conversion...i hope not.

Just double checked the wiring diagram. It taps into the fuel gauge (how much fuel left in the tank) only, the consumpion averages are calculated in the OBC itself... so nothing to worry about.

However, one thing you may want to look into is the wiring codes.. euro-spec may use different colors for wiring than US-spec.

hate to bring up an old thread, but i wanted to know if the 18 button conversion works on OBD1 cars, like will all the functions work? i know that some of the cool things you can do with the 11 button controls can only be done on OBD2 cars..

does the OBC from an E34 fit an E36? Looks like I have an 11 button as well. I loved the range feature on my E34

all the OBD1 functions will work. (OBD1 cars had 18 button OBC's optional).

unfortunately it won't fit. you'll need to do the 18 button upgrade to get the range function working.
