New Transmission Increases Fuel Mileage by 20-30 MPG!
http://deseretnews.com/dn/view/1,1249,635179379,00.html
"He's one of the few people that I would actually use the word genius," Fechner said.
Gogins said the transmission will change the world because it would increase mileage in a car from 20 mpg to 30 mpg. "We wouldn't even need a teacup of oil from the Middle East," Gogins said.

It is great to see inventors thinking outside of the box to make our cars more efficient.

infinately varible transmissions have been out for a while now.
It fails to explain how it works, or how they plan on justifying 20-30MPG increase.

If you are quoting stuff from "howstuffworks.com"...it's not like it is Modern Science or something

huh?
no im talkin about cars that already have variable transmissions, like the nissan marano, also i think Audi has a transmission they called CVT, Continously Variable Transmission.
The gas savings was never anything to rave about.
I think it sucked, driving the marano, with you flooor it, the needle sticks close to redline, the transmission continously varies the ratio, until you let off the gas.

Most likely nothing....All depends on how you drive it....If it's all stop light traffic KM's then your going to experience worse fuel economy then if it was all highway driven...Also driving habits...if you like to hit the gas hard, then obviously your fuel consumption will suck...Typically 550 is EXTREME....on our old 2001 325xi and our current 2004 330i and 1998 328is a good tank will get you about 500, if your not racing around.

Sorry...I should have quoted the second sentence you posted which was "It fails to explain how it works, or how they plan on justifying 20-30MPG increase". The article didn't explain too much at all.
