E-brake help!!

The drivers side rear brakes were making funny screeching noises, so i took them apart to find the rear e-brake drum had been rubbing against the rotor. They are stock, and have never been used in the 11+ years we've owned this car. The e-brake assembly fell apart when i removed the rotor, and now i just want to put it back together with no drivers e-brake (for the time being).

There is one piece which appears to be part of the cable itself, and i'm wondering if i can remove this somehow without ruining the cable?

You need to remove this "piece" or it will screech against the rotor.
It's attached to the cable with a bolt. Just slide it off and pull it out.

I realize i must take it off, that's why i posted before i throw it back together - ha!

I can not see any bolt that is holding this piece onto the cable. Can you elaborate? I am searching for my digital camera right now to snap a picture.

it is more like a metal bracket attached to the cable with a press fit pin. I used a pin punch and hammer to take mine off.

Ok I understand now. I removed one bolt from the bracket OK, but the other is stubborn and my craftsman wrench isn't precise enough to hug it (14mm - it is rounding the edges).

I could easily get a socket on it if the hub were off. What does it take to remove the hub? Just spin the nut off and remove the hub? Torque it back to xxx ft/lbs when im finished? What do you guys think about doing this?

Or do i have to remove the cv joint in order to get the hub off?

you can take the hub off, get a haines manual. It is your best friend.

If you take the hub off, I believe the wheel bearing will come apart and you'd need to replace it.

You should be able to get it off without taking off the hub.

Use some vise grips on the twist lock pins. The most universal tool out there.

I ended up getting the bolt off with a 14mm universal socket and some heat. Glad i didn't play with the hub.. last thing i want is to get deeper and deeper!
