Yes. Some states will let you shoot firearms at their ranges. Show some ID and you're pretty much ready to go. It's ridiculous at how easy it was, this was in Florida. Our regulations are A LOT tougher here. Example...handguns can not be loaded with more than 5 rounds - even at the range. I'm not even going to get into this topic........sorry I'm done.
True..this is where i got my 1st real experience with Handguns.

1st thing i ever shot though was a actual M-16 (way way overseas)
not a AR but a actual M-16.
Then a single shot 12G in some buds feild in Ontario followed by a
12G Slugs rip pumkins to shreads
I don't own any guns, took the firearms safety course, but way to much red tape!
