Running Thread....My e30
Alright everyone, its me again, and of course I have some questions,
Being the perfectionist theres a lot of stuff id like to get done to my car but im gonna have to break it down so i dont go bankrupt. I have a list of priority items and anyone with knowledge of electrical/wiring and engine swapped cars will definately be an asset.
My car is an 1988 e30 with a '94 m50 engine swap. I did not do the swap myself so I am not extremely familiar with all the fine details.
Firstly:
Since i bought the car I've been having grief with 2 of my gauges, my temp and my fuel gauge do not work. Right now I fill up, then set my trip odometer and every 300k ill fill'er up again just to be safe. I'd like to get both of those gauges working but my mechanic doesnt know how to get them working. Hes an import mechanic that specialises in german cars. (so please do not call into question his ability or tell me to go to another one). Revshot also is a big help to me, however we are all stumped.
im short on time at the moment and ill be continuing this thread later......just wanted to git the ball rollin

Check the 30+ page thread on 24v swaps on r3vlimited.com. They have by far the most comprehensive information regarding this swap.

BMWags, Is this M50E30's old car? If it is the cars had lots of electrical little glitches since the swap, He used to bring it to my dads to get fixed and have the messes that were caused by whomever did the swap before he sold it. To me the fuel gauge not working seems like it should'nt have anything to do with the swap.

The gauges might not be working simply because of the grounds on the back of the cluster. They often get dirty and or need tightening.

ya, its daves e30, car is great so far except for those 2 things right now, Vincent swapped the gauge cluster for another to see if it worked and no dice, so it shouldnt be a dirty connection or a dirty ground

ok, so the story thus far:
Current Issues:
- coolant light just came on today, might be leaking again
- gauge cluster bulbs are burnt out, ( speedo and tach are dark, signal, and CEL work fine )
- the ticking/clicking noise is back (its coming from the direction of the right front wheel)
- gas and temp gauges are not working
I plan on picking up a set of bumpers this weekend and taking off my GTS kit, so my car wont be sitting so low, and so i can make it up the driveway. If any e30 gurus are available to lend a hand sometime, holla at me!

OK, i forgot to update.....
coolant woes have been remedied, with the replacement of all hoses imaginable, i found the cracked bugger that was causing me grief, my ticking and clicking was infact coming from my glovebox, (even though i checked it once) tightened up some the loose screws and washers now its good to go.
so that leaves me with:
- temp and fuel gauges
- gauge cluster lights
and new to the list:
- e36 window switch conversion
- different front and rear bumpers
for my gauge cluster im pretty sure id like to stick to amber, however i was liking the blue light interior i saw a little while back, has anyone done this, any feedback/thoughts/insights?
