importing exhaust from USA question
het guys, when you get a USED exhaust shipped form teh states with UPS and you specify that its used, do you still get charged taxes and customs fees? What happens if you declare a value of 100 USD with ups, and the package is lost, do you only get 100 bucks back since thats teh value you declared or can you insure it for more? Thanks

Anything they bring across the border, gets taxed. I had used parts come over, and I payed when it arrived at my door. Sometimes they send you a bill later on. As for the insureance, I would assume, that if you declare less, then they will only pay up to that amount. If you live near the border, or dont mind driving past one, I would have the exhaust sent to a shop or if you know someone in the states, to their address, and have the exhaust installed down there, then just drive the car back over. But honestly, the taxes is probably better to just pay, cause you'll spend that much in gas to get down there.
I would say not to worry bout the duty, but find out the differences in price if the item is worth $100 vs. $500. If its not much, I would insure it up to the highest value, to cover your ass in the long run.

alright, if you declare it too low and they feel suspicious, they will revalue it. Let say ur exhaust looks new, they will actualyl look up the prices of the new exhaust and charge you tax base on that. For $100, it will be around $30-40 from my experience.

My friend got taxed on 2 rare NGK iridium spark plugs- shipped in a regular padded envelope- They were combined worth like $15 total. It was like $2 in tax and a ****ing $8 bullshit customs handling fee. Customs opened it too.

I paid around $30 for 2 bilstein shocks and 2 metal water pump housings. I paid around $60 for brand new Konis back in the day. So if your saving a huge amount from the seller, then go for it, if not, dont bother. They base it on the size and weight of the box. Just say the value is $50 and call it a day

it only works if the parts are installed onto ur car.. hence go there, pikc up ur exhaust, install it, then drive back.
