Do u guys think this would be a good thing to do?

ok i got my E30 325 and im seriously lookin for something to do to make it faster.

so im talkin to my buddy and we stumble upon the idea of puttin a 93-99 3.28i engine into my BM and super charge the son of a bitch. that car has 190 horses and does 15.4 i think in 1/4 mile so if u put it in a lighter car it will be way better....then super charged ill be doin freakin 12s.
my financial situation isn;t really good enough to afford an M3 and my buddy sayin i could pick that engine up for about $4000, $5000 at the most. then to super charge it would be like a next 4gs probably.
I dunno were im gona get this money but this is the best idea i got so far. maybe ill take a loan out when i turn 18 in march

what u guys think?

from other members' experince, I've been told it is about $6k to put the engince out of an e36 into an e30. U want the 2.5l from 92-95 preferably. Supercharging it is a whole lot more than $4k... up to twice that.

Otherwise, its a good idea, makes for a fun time.

For the costs involved to implant a 325/328 engine, and then supercharge it, you might as well just drop in a 3.2L M3 engine in, for the same costs, if not less.

i agree with djcontra, find an m3 engine, or if it fits and m5 engine into the car, probably'll cost less and you'll have bigger engines to work with if you wanna do a little more tweaking.

I have a '95 2.5L in my E30 and in the future I plan on doing a custom turbo/intercooler. If I do it I will be running over 8lbs of boost so the engine is going to need some serious work...about $15,000 (for parts, install, and dyno time ). I talked to empowerd about it and he said it would give me about 350hp at the wheels and $15,000 isn't too bad to build up a turbo motor.

It seems like you are on a budget so why bother with an expensive M3 3.2L? You have to lower the compression on any of those engines (2.5L, 2.8L, 3.2L). Find a good 2.5L for about half the price and take that extra money to do what ever. And trust me it will be loads of fun! So good luck, do your homework, and save those pennies!

L8R,
Dave

L8R,

What I was trying to imply was to just install the 3.2L engine, and nothing else, no boost at all. If you're set on running boost, by all means go for the 2.5L engine, no need to get the expensive m3 engine.

350hp from a 2.5L at 8psi?? is that from a turbo only, or a general fact? I didn't think the figures were that high....*djcontra starts worrying about how his new car's engine will take 9 psi*

Over 8lbs! I want to have a dual boost setting. Street @ 8lbs and track @ 10-12lbs.

Are you talking american or canadian pricing. I think an M3 engine is more then 4000$ cdn and super chargers are more then 3000-4000$ from what I have seen. Seems like a waste of money.

when I was lookin into putting in a bigger engine into my e30...some of the guys said it would be better to start with a 2.5 from a 92-95 for 3 main reasons
1 Cost
2 Computer
3 Ease of install

M50 e30 and empowered now their $hit .. and have done lots to their cars. M50 e30 said " the engine he installed really woke up the car". It might be a really good start , cost and installing wise.
This is just what I have found by askin . You can always add power to it.( bolt on's)
just my .02
