E30 - Resetting service indicator lights?

My friend got an 1986 E30 325i and we need to reset the service lights. I read we short out pin 7, but can somebody give me some more help on this because it isn't working. What in the engine would work as a good ground that's close by the data connector?Or do I need to touch the frame of the car (meaning use something other than a paperclip because of length =/)

yea pin 7 is the reset light im positive about it. like I said make sure your ground is good and watch the light as soon as it resets turn the key off. it takes about 3-5 secs for oil reset and 7-10 for service reset
