Is there a law now requiring you to decrease your speed by 20 km below the posted limit if only one lane and a requirement to move over to the left lane if more than two lanes of traffic when passing a stopped police vehicle? I've heard this but have absolutely no idea if it's law.
For me, I always move into the far lane if there is one and if not, always slow way down just in case.
But 8 cars to stop you, that's plane stupid.....nice to see that the force is working hard to fight crime, frigging stupid.

The law was passed within the past year. Drivers are required to slow down and change lanes when approaching any emergency vehicle on the highway. As I remember, it doesn't matter if its a police car, ambulance, fire truck or emergency road repair crew.
The law came into effect at the same time the law about yielding to buses came into effect.

Take it to court, but the cop does have a case since he didn't charge you for speeding but careless driving.
That's a big fine too. Hope you win.

My first accident, The ABS on my chevy corsica failed. Rear ended a Malibu who was following to close, and ended up bumping an Olds/Buick. I got charged with Careless Driving because 2 other caars were involved, even though there was no damage to the Buick/Olds. I fought it myself, the Justice of the peace made me an offer of "Fail to make a left to avoid a collision" I took it and got 2 points instead of 6.
Stupid charge if you ask me, If I would have made a left, I would have side swept the cars in the left lane. I got lucky that a deal was made, or else I was going up against 6 points and a major ticket. You can try fighting it yourself, you might get lucky, but with a lawyer/traffic specialist, he/she can guide you, as well as be able to possibly find loopholes to get you out. Ive been dismissed from tickets because of technicalities, and the traffic specilist I posted earlier, is who got me out of all my tickets, and lessened the ones that couldnt be dismissed.
On top of it, you don't have to go to court, they go for you, so its one less thing to worry about.

Guys..
I am not fond of cops , especially with my driving record, but you have to feel sorry for them... they are ponds in a much bigger game... they do what they can and when they can to reasure themselves that they are on the right side...
what you should do is call 905 851 3400 Mcleod.... they have gotten me off of a LOT of tickets...
cops can use thier judgement if they were pacing you..and 9/10 it holds up in court. what they say in court is that they have measured how many seconds it would take to go from point a to point b.. they counted driving the limit in their cruiser... so point A could be from the stop light to another object... ( like a light, or bldg, or tree) and if you are over so many secs, they apparently have a method in which to logically estimate your speed..
long and short... fight the ticket... fight the ticket..
