looks is not everything.

my dad's has a 91 passat and it looks great from the outside but underneath everything is new and changed. it was our first car i might have said this a few thousand times by now but still. we bought it for $3700 almost 3 years ago and by now have spend over $15000 and my dad wrote every penny he ever spent on that car. it was over 15K by now, every month something else brakes down on it. biggest problem was it was over heating in the summer.

beware when buying it. thats why i bought my car in the first place i didn't want to paye to get the passat fixed all the time. but my dad kept it.

The Passat has a lot of reliability problems, thats why in many cases they are cheaper then a Jetta/Golf of the same year. The G60 Syncro was only sold in Canada (not the US!) Only 1000 were imported and most were sold in Quebec. So parts for the AWD system will be hard to get, but if you like the car go for it! I am looking at one myself, but the older version of the Passat, called the Quantum Syncro. Only 300 were sold in the states in 88 so finding parts will kill me if i get it!!!

Dooooooooooon't buy it! I had a 91 Passat, and I put about $2500 into it, and I only had it for 6 months, if I woulda kept it longer it would have been more, it had SO many reliablilty issues. NOT a smart purchase.

But hey, to each there own!

passats are horrible and expensive to maintain. my friend had one and it was constantly breaking down, the best thing that happened to them with that car was that it was written off.

I just can't bear the thought of our nasty canadian road salt eating away at sutch a beautiful car wich is becoming more rare every year. I might just have to let it go to a good home that will truly deserve a car like that.

Thumbs down

DO NOT BUY THAT CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if you want AWD get a 91+ talon TSI, All old passats are timebombs on wheels. The superchargers on G60 are notorious for failure and HELLA expensive to get rebuilt.

Thanx for all the replies guys! I talked to my mechanic today and he said the same thing about the reliability (cylinder gaskets, and cracking cylinder heads).
