my e30 vs my bro's mazdaspeed protege

we were on west mall road coming back from this bike shop and we were both side by side. we have been trash talking before i even got the car. anyways i just took his car out of storage and his only mod is a cai while i got bone stock 325is.

so we're lined up at the lights and all we start to go. i hear his turbo spooling up like crazy so i punch it. i'm out in front by a good car length and when i pop it to 3rd he catches up to my rear bumper. going a long i put it to 4th and brake for the corner coming up. the closest he got was to my rear bumper.

his excuse was he didn't know we were going at it, (i can partially believe him on that) and he also said he was short shifting. don't believe that though.
what do you guys think? my stock 5spd 1991 325is vs a 2003.5 mazdaspeed protege with a CAI. did the race seem about right?

The power is damn near equal, and the Protege weighs slightly more. Plus the stupid 17" wheels and such only slow the Mazda down more.

Your race sounds about right. The cars are close enough that it would come down to driver input to decide the winner.

actually the mazdaspeed proteges can produce some great numbers when slightly modified.
I used to own a protege 5.. so i know alot about mazda's
either way with slight upgrades they can produce some staggering numbers..
a protege 5 with a hiboost kit will produce 240 at the wheels.. and a MMA kit on a mazdaspeed will produce over 270whp.

either way they are not meant for the straight line.. the mazda protege's are great on the twisties.. and i can tell u that for a fact.
