Theres some M50B25 engines in E30's also in sweden (same guys that did the E21 in the vid) that have been in PBMW magazine. Its still at 2.5L but throwing out over 750hp. They are confident with a new turbo it'll do 4 figures. So it can be done, just a question of $$ and if your not scared to fry an engine in testing.

That's the big turbo spooling. Same noise as a big diesel truck.

the sound is intoxicating!

The high pitch noise is the turbo spooling.... the pfshhh noise is the BOV (Blow Off Valve) dumping compressed air from the intake manifold into the atmosphere (engine bay). My BOV does the same thing whenever there's a pressure difference on the valve as the throttle is about to close.

Don't forget that BMW in the early F1 days was able to get 1200HP out of 1.5L 4 cylinders!

That right, but the 754hp M50B25 motor is sold. The new M50B25 project is borred to 2,8L and to quote the owner: "nothing under 1000 horsepower is accepted". The M50B25 is a great motor to get big power out of, the BMW tuners say (M50B25 motors are in E34 525i and E36 325i for those who didnt know).

Some pictures of the 1000++++ hp M50B25 project:

The E21 (also a 1000+++ hp project) on the right is also using a M50B25 motor with the same setup as the E30.

Oh ok, I wasnt aware that it was taken to 2.8. Do you know why a non vanos engine was used over a vanos one? I'm in the undecided state of either a M30B35 in a 535, or a E36 with a M50B25TU. I'm after around 550rwhp. Is the ammount of work roughly the same for either engine to hit that power figure? whats your opinion on which way to go?

That E21 belongs to Andreas Backstrom from Sweden. He also owns the other E21 with the blue flames on black, those are officailly both of the 2 fastest E21's. The E21 featured in the video has 400hp on a stroked M20 @ 2.7L
The stats are: 400bhp @ .85bar boost, 0-62 in 4.9 and 1325' in 12.27 @ 119mph. His other E21 dies it in 9.4sec. They both run on Holset H1E turbos

nice. The M50B25 motor that everyone prefers to use is the '92 non-VANOS unit because of tunability and ease of installing much higher lift cams.

I'm not a fan of watching these guys "show off" by doing useless donuts in parking lots. Anyone can do that! Heck even with a stock motor when bouncing off the limiter. Waste of tire if you ask me... lack of driving skill too.

Best quartermile ET for the grey E21 is 11,10 sec on street tires, and for the E34 its 11,86 sec. Short vid of the E34: http://racemovie.mine.nu/movies/sund...s_widedivx.avi

Ya it is pretty much a pointless drive in that video, but the sounds coming out of those cars almost makes up for it but id rather much see and hear them go thru turns and quick shifts.
