Buy a US car like mine and you wont have any daytime lights. you can just turn on the fogs or have just the parking lights and fogs.

Are the outboard DRL only on HID units?

Fog lights - you may as well turn em on and enjoy....With DRLs, proper use of fogs is impossible. In thick fog, you're supposed to drive with them and no other headlamp. You can't see $hit out the front anyway, so the fog lights light up the side of the road so you can keep from driving into the ditch. BTW, you're supposed to go slow...duh. Without being able to switch the DRLs off, you get a high beam (low power) glare.

At least in Toronto area, nasty thick fog is pretty rare.

Thanks MTO...

at first i thought the DRL was a plain stupid idea... but it's actually very useful. when I see a car without any light, i assume it's parked. It's dangerous to drive without any light on, even during the day.

downside of DRL... some morons think that they have their lights turned on already at night... in fact they don't.

I agree, now it's dangerous for those cars which don't have DRL. When they failed on my Jeep, I felt nervous because my wife was still driving it.
