Just In Time For The Arctic Weather...

This sucks...
I was freezing my ass off in my car as my heating was not working properly,
for some reason i cant get hot air to come through my front vents, there is little to no air blowing from the feet vents... and it just doesnt get hot enough when blowing through the defroster vents... any help????

someone once told me that there is a mechanical module that directs the air to where its supposed to go... could that be at fault, if so, how hard is it to replace?

PLEASE HELP ME!!!
Adam

what year is your car?
e36's don't have an electronic module to direct the flow of air.. (perhaps later model e36's do).. but early model rotary style climate control's don't. When you turn the knob you're actually moving the directional flaps behind the dash to move the air.

In either case, sounds like your microfilter might need changing...

its a 1992 with dual climate control... i'll check the microfilter.... but how does that explain the cold air coming out of the front vents??

your saying cold air is blowing through the vents. what is your thermostat reading. typical, it should be at the half way point once your car has warmed up and you've been driving for 5-10minutes. if it's below this and only a quarter of the way or less, your thermostat needs to be changed.

Microfilter.

I understand the microfilter is behind the dash on the passenger side. You will have to take the glovebox out. I have not done it myself but technicians who work on BMWs tell me its a real &*#@% to do. I'm sure theres a thread or someone here has done it before and will have suggestions and tips on how to do it. Good Luck.

It blows hot air through the defrost vents and the floor vent, but if i switch it to the front vents, its hot at first, but then starts shooting cold after a few seconds. as for heating up... my car heats up normally.... and to make things worse... my heated seats arent working... the botton lights up, and it seems to get a bit warm... but not as hot as it should.

and the worst part... i can smell a little antifreeze when i first turn on the heater.... not a good sign i hear...

smelling antifreeze means the core is leaking...

If it stops after a bit, that means it's probably a seal being on the way out and the expanding metal stops it.
