Labour/shop time ?

Is there a source for how long for repairs. The small shop I deal with takes longer than I expect. eg 2hrs for an alternator. They are good to me free loaner, extended credit when money was tight and I do business with them thru work so I don't want to stir anything up. I wonder if they are referring to a manuel or what.

what car was it? some cars are pretty hard to get to.

And yes there is a book that some shops go by, they are quite a few different ones actually.

But say ur car is messed and a bolt strips, or something happens requiring more work, some places add labour, most good shops let it go.

The alternator is under the airbox in my 1992 e36. I think they let some things go. I will have to ask them how they calculate their time.

Alternator is a hour job at the most if not less depending on the car.Theres a source some repair shops go by,it tells how much each job should take.
