e36 m3 turbo

i was looking through car doamin, and this guy claims that he has the only E36 M3 in America that has the turbo up top in the engine bay.(refer to pic)

what is the advantage of this:

-is it b/c it allows for a bigger turbo?
-is it cooler up top?
-better air induction??

does any one know?

From what I have been reading his car sounds very impressive.

With a built motor he wanted more power than the T60-1 would give him he went to the ball bearing GT30.

Those turbo can easily support 500-550hp

I would love a turbo set up like that on top. I figure I drive my ride in winter and having the turbo underneath would be murdered by the elements of winter.
Its all about rolling in the X5 !!!

I really curious as to what that exhaust manifold would look like....
