K & N Air Filter - Cone

I just got my car checked today and the mechanic said I need to change my air filter. I'm thinking might as well to go with the K & N cone air filter.

- Where did you guys get yours from ? and how much are they ?
- Should I get the heatshield too ?
- Do you have any recommendation for other brand / product ?
- Does it improve your performance ? (how much power increases ?)

ps: this is for 1989 325is - E30

i heard that using a cone filter will cause hot air to get sucked in while in traffic

it will if you don't have a heat shield. But pretty much every air filter sucks in the engine heat, if there is no air blowin into from outside. Doesn't matter what filter you got.

unless you have a true cold air then yeah you`ll get hot air, but keep in mind your air mass will be larger going into the motor, if only slightly its better for overall power.
