hey, i am in the market for a sub and amp

i went to a local car audio store and he quoted me $500au for an
R type 12" alpine sub
Vpower 2 channel amplifier
Sub Box
All the cabling

is this a good deal?

remember i live in Australia so i am not sure of the prices in other countries

I couldnt say its any good deal or not.! Depending on what type of audio systems you would want in your car.! As for type R Alpine woofers. I have no commons on them.!! But all I knows is... Alpine mostly are good on car units/decks. And which are not really good on woofers and components, unless they are on the top of their few lines.!! Otherwise, I wouldnt spend too much money to get Alpine speakers..

I like their amps.. but they are too small.. easily get hot and get distorsions.

I've been through a few setups, and heard it all. Alpine Type-R subs and components blow away anything within 200% of their prices. I've also ran a few of their amps, never a problem and always severely underated in the literature.

What model amp is he trying to sell you though?

Yes, Alpine amps are good and they are underrated as their written specs. As I am saying, their amps are fairly small. Easily get hot. Trust me or not.! I just giving suggestions.! No one has been selling me any Alpine amps or any types of speakers yet.!

But, ( LOL ), to be honest, I am usingthe Alpine deck. The most lovely about Alpine, are their decks. Prices are reasonable and also in good sound quality. One problem thus, which is the same old problem of Alpine, it gets hot too easily. My Alpine deck gets hot once i hit to 25 volume and run it for an hour or so. Than the Cd seems get hot and the cd-reader seems not reading the cd-data properly. Starting to hear some zzaa zzaaaa sound.!

For normally listening, its perfection to me.!
