Thats true, they both use NV17 chip sets, which is mostly why the GF4 MX sucks in comparisson to its bigger brothers.
But the GF4 has almost 3 times as much memory bandwidth has the old GF2 MX.
The reason why your benchmarks are so close together, is because your system is holding it back.
Just to prove my point, here's a 3D mark 2001 with a GF4 MX 440 in a Pentium 2.2 Ghz.
Your mark was 3480, with the better system, you get 5559 marks. Big difference!
IMO, GF4 MX really isnt worth it still..

I believe any 3DMark above 4800 is already quite good. Only problem is that its on a 2.2GHz! Who actually has a system like that? I think on average serious gamers have 1.4GHz or around that. I know for a fact that my FSB (Front Side Bus) of 133MHz is holding the system back. I overclocked the FSB to 150MHz and it showed a significant increase in performance, only thing is that my computer was very unstable, AGP and PCI frequencies were also increased and therefore became unstable. I'm actually trying to sell of some parts so I can get a new CPU/MB/RAM combo.
Thanks,
Bryan
