Very nice clean car!
Reminds me of my ex 98 540/6.
First mod to do is the short shifter, makes such a difference.
Then the 3.15 diff. Car feels much livelier with it.

I was told from someone that the 6 Speed sport packages came with a 3.15 rear diff. And that only the auto's and non sport packaged 6 speeds came with the 2.81. Either way, I am not big on increasing my gas consumption by that much more just to get a little more acceleration out of the car. Thanks for the tips though, like I said, I will most likely keep it stock and just save up my cash for this seasons racing budget.

Alrighty then, here is a picture, and a video of my 97' Talon. I have had it for about 4 years, and it is in pieces in my garage right now. Waiting for some warm weather to install the new turbo and fuel cell.

Enjoy.

Partially right. It was the late model 540iA (automatics) that came with 3.15 peglegs as opposed to early pre '01 I believe automatics that had 2.81's. All 6-speeds though retained the 2.81 throughout the E39 lifecycle.

Gas consumption is not that much more noticeable with the 3.15. It's really not that much of a ratio change as opposed to a 3.46 yet with the 3.15 either LSD or quaiffe atb you will feel like the car is supercharged.

Gorgeous ride ... congrats!
I don't think your car came with 3.15 and I've looked into headers as well, but as Greco540 pointed out, it a waste of money. Get some nice 19s instead(I just got mine ... hehe).

Go 20's!

20's look best on the E39.

Eh guys, thanks for the comments. The 540i is going to stay stock for a while, at least until I get a better paying job, or don't have to worry about bills.

Yea I am up for some runs at Cayuga. I just have to get the car back together, I have a T66 now and a fuel cell. Should be half finished tomorrow pending weather. I can get a couple other guys out to. They all run low 11's with imports to, should be fun.

Edited due to spelling.
