OBDII check engine light DOES go off on its own once the problem is fixed. it DOESN'T go off as soon as you fix the problem though. the computer needs to go through a certain number of "clean" starts where everything is good. and that number is somewhere between 600-1000 i believe. so yes it will take a while, but it will go off.

I got scaned and reset my light for free at Chuck's Auto  Thank you Charlie !!!!!!
To reset your Check Engine light just disconnect your battery.
Thank you Charlie for the tip. 10-15min is enough.

I always disconnect my -ve battery terminal for 1 hour just to be sure. Either way, just be prepared to get your stock radio's codes and reset all the clocks, etc etc.

i see Pat's point, you shouldn't charge for advice. Thats why were all here, to get tips and advice and share information. if i had the codes, i wouldn't charge for it. if i perform a service for you, then thats another story....
