when puting in a m50 engine into the e30 is it a direct bolt on or does it still need castome made mounts? i checked aroung the web for pricing and it $3000 for the engine and the trany. For a bimmer engine that sounds too cheap. any opinions??
That is not cheap you can get a m50 for 1000 and the tranny for 750. you will need diferent mounts ( m6 ones will do) you will need the driveshaft changed. You will need dressed m50 with the accessories on it. the computer from the 92 engine non silver label ( security on it makes it so it can only be used on the car it came from)You can use the tranny from the M20.

wow that sounds like a lot of work. has anyone on this forum done this converions. i think i saw a white m3 with the m50 engine. can the onwner of that car give me the amount he spend on the whole conversion in canadian dollars. thank you.
oh yeah and i heard of a CD that has all the info that one needs to do this swap but i dont remember the name. can anyone help me?
Both Jeremy and m50e30 have done the conversion (Jeremy did a S50 swap ). The cost is really going to depend on what you pay for the engine tranny and computer.Also weather you use the M20 tranny and rad. If you use the M20 rad and tranny you can do it for 1500.
