what does performance chip look like

I have an extra computer lying around, and wanted to check if it has a performance chip. I opened up the computer, and everything looks stock. Would a chip have something written on it to indicate it is performance (ie. Dinan, MarkD, or whatever)? Secondly, which chip is the one that is replaced? Is it the one that sticks up the highest, with the plastic cover over it?

sometimes the chips come in normal, all dressed, BBQ...in normal or ruffles form.

Yes, it is the one with the plastic cover on it. Remove the cover by putting a mini slot screwdriver in the notches at the sides and leaning it inwards slightly. A performance chip will have some sort of label on it stating the company, if it's stock it will just have a part number.
